Still, there are criteria by which Oriental rugs are often judged that are commonly agreed on. Some are elementary and nearly self-evident: Look for wool of fine lustrous quality ; good wool has a noticeable glow. Weave should be regular and consistant and good rugs should lie flat without significant wrinkles (though tribal rugs, made under less than perfect conditions may not be perfect but can still be very valuable). Generally colors that are full and rich to the eye, are considered preferable to more faded pastel tones. The composition of patterns should be well balanced and harmonious without jarring notes.
