For one and a half decades, Ruth Lockwood has been living and dealing in oriental rugs in Turkey, specialising in handwoven rugs made in the finest traditions, using lustrous hand spun wools, rich natural colors and a myriad of intricate memorised designs and individual artistry, each rug taking months or even years of skilful weaving.

Ruth has spent many years working with local and international rug experts perfecting her knowlege. She continues to be fascinated by the vibrant carpet bazaars, changing nomadic lifestlyes, and ancient skills used by village weavers, giving her a first hand knowledge of the craftwomanship and traditions that are a part of every rug in her collection.

Ruth and Faruk now opened their new gallery, Tribal Collections , combining their skill and expertise. Tribal Collections is an intimate gallery with one of the finest retail collections of quality handmade rugs, kilims and tribal weavings. Tribal Collections is located in Goreme, Central Anatolia, in the traditional heart of Turkish weaving.

Our proximity to the weavers themselves enables us to personally select each unique piece. We source the most skilled weavers, whose use of ancestral symbols and personal artistry is part of every rug in our inventory.
